Number One SPAM Nation

Every nation likes to secure the top billing for favourable achievements. Being recognised as the number one country in the world can be hugely beneficial to the economy and the confidence of the people.

However when it comes to less favourable activities the number one position is not envied and a lot of effort is expended to move your position down the ratings ladder. The United States of America is in the top position for spewing out spam. The US strengthened their lead over China in the third quarter, defying the recent predictions from Sophos, the UK based security vendor.

According to Sophos China would push the US into the number two position this quarter however a widely spread worm (Stration) widened the gap between the two nations, ensuring the US kept the spam crown.

Sophos said the rankings by continent were identical to the last quarter results where Asia is top, followed by Europe and North America. As far as individual countries go Australia dropped seven places from 25th to 32nd and New Zealand went up one place from 58th to 57th position. New Zealand relayed 0.1 percent of spam during the last quarter which is considered at a manageable level and provides peace of mind to businesses sending bulk email using New Zealand IP Addresses.
